CURE ID: Infectious Disease Crowdsourcing for Rare Disease Treatment

The US Food and Drug Administration announced the global launch of the application CURE ID for the clinical community to share their experiences in treating rare diseases, diseases which are difficult to treat, such as tropical diseases, and dealing with antibiotic-resistant bacteria. The application will also be a platform to exchange knowledge related to new drug use through a website via smartphones or other mobile devices. The systematic collection of real-world medical experience, which might also involve the use of medical devices or drugs which are not yet officially approved, may also lead to development of new and effective treatment options.
