Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Project On 26 December 2004, Thailand experienced one of its worst natural tragedies, the Andaman Tsunami. Some 6,000 people in the six southern provinces were killed by two massive waves. Tens of thousands more were injured. It is estimated that at least 30 percent of the tsunami survivors suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Depressive Disorder.
Pharmacogenomics Project Assoc. Prof. Wasun Chantratita, director of Ramathibodi Hospital’s Pharmacogenomics said that when successful, he hopes such techniques will help to save lives and lower medical expenses because the right drugs can be administered to the right patients.
Bioactive compound for skin whitening products from natural latex serum Given the extensive demand for face whitening products in Thailand’s consumer market, this proposed product has tremendous business development potential. Currently, most products on the shelves consist of chemicals that suppress the tyrosinase enzyme, which produces melanin. In the past, hydroquinone would be used to stop the enzymetic oxidation of tyrosine. These chemicals, however, are now banned from cosmetic production because of their undesired side affects that could turn skin brown or even black.
Pre-clinical Research Projects Establish an Animal Breeding Centre with barrier-maintained and isolator-maintained systems to increase Thailand’s competitiveness to serve Southeast Asia’s development in life sciences. Standardised testing in animals is a critical step before testing can be carried out on human.
