Center for Cell & Gene Therapy

TCELS has been involved in cell and gene therapy projects since 2007. To help patients awaiting a bone marrow transplant receive stem cell treatment, TCELS has been working with the Thai Red Cross Society and relevant hospitals towards establishing a national stem cell collection center. Data from this research will also be used to develop future stem cell projects. Currently there is a national center for storage of cord blood for patients requiring a bone marrow transplant that meets international standards.

As announced by the Ministry of Science and Technology in line with the country strategy, in 2013, a Cell and Gene Therapy Center will be established within TCELS. Developing infrastructure for cell and gene therapies will be the main activity of this center.  A GLP laboratory will also be established to develop technologies to cure thalassemia and leukemia patients. Along with this, another laboratory will be established for developing safe and high quality GMP products for therapeutic use and research.

The project on cell and gene therapy will continue until 2017.
